About us

We exist so primary students get to do the science

Hands On Science delivers practical science incursions in primary schools across Melbourne and regional Victoria, with 22 curriculum-mapped programs from Foundation through to Year 6.

Students investigating light and sound with hands-on equipment

Science that survives contact with a real timetable

Primary teachers are generalists carrying an enormous curriculum. Science is the subject most often postponed — not through lack of interest, but because sourcing equipment and rehearsing an unfamiliar activity costs time nobody has.

We remove that cost entirely. Our facilitators arrive with everything, run the session in your classroom while your teacher stays in the room, and pack it all away afterwards. What's left behind is a class that has genuinely investigated something, and a teacher who has seen how the activity runs.

Every program is mapped to Victorian Curriculum v2.0 content descriptions, so the day counts toward your planning rather than sitting outside it.

What we hold to

Hands on, not hands off

If the students aren't holding the equipment, it isn't our program. Demonstrations are the seasoning, never the meal.

Built for the classroom

Our sessions run in ordinary classrooms with ordinary furniture. No lab, no special power, no elaborate setup.

Safe and documented

WWCC-checked facilitators, public liability cover and a risk assessment supplied for every program before we arrive.

Every child included

Activities are designed with a low floor and high ceiling so mixed-ability classes all get somewhere worth going.
