Key features of our Professional Learning Workshops

  • Run by highly qualified presenters with backgrounds in scientific ;
  • Aligned with Victorian Curriculum;
  • Demonstrates how inexpensive and easy-to-obtain materials can be used in the classroom;
  • Conducted in a typical classroom setting with access to an interactive whiteboard;
  • The guiding Power Point presentation is available to the school and each year level receives a resource booklet.

The workshop begins with an overview of science from the Australian/Victorian Curriculum showcasing the common aims for all levels. The bulk of the workshop involves teachers working cooperatively on practical activities related to specific science concepts; discussing ideas and clarifying uncertainties. During these times the presenter is available to discuss individual questions.

Workshops Themes

Your Professional Learning program can cover one of the following themes:  

  1. Physical Sciences: force, movement, light, sound, heat, energy and electricity;
  2. Chemical Sciences: properties of materials, states of matter, physical and chemical change;
  3. Earth and Space Sciences: Solar System, changes caused by movement of the Earth and moon, changes in the atmosphere and on the Earth’s surface
  4. STEM: Materials, construction, and design process.

Presenters

Our professional development courses are usually presented by Angela White.
 

Angela White

Angela is a passionate educator with over 20 years experience. She has taught at both primary and secondary level in Victoria and the Northern Territory as well as in three states in the USA.
Angela has been a classroom teacher, field naturalist and instructor at Outdoor Science School. She has designed and implemented new science programs in Primary schools in Victoria and the USA.
Angela has mentored teachers, providing guidance to increase scientific knowledge and increase confidence in the area of inquiry-based teaching and learning. Angela advocates for lifelong learning and has recently completed her Master of Education at Latrobe University.
